Referee Pay Information

The pay ranges from $10 per hour up to $25 per game, depending on experience, skill, and other factors. (See the Referee Expectations and Clinic information pages.)

Note that you become an employee of Santa Rosa Bible Church, meaning that you only pay the employee portion of FICA. (Most other refereeing positions are an independent contractor, which means you are subject to twice the FICA and must file both schedules C and conditionally SE with your taxes.)

Since you become an employee, you must complete all standard legal employment documents (i.e., W-4, I-9) before you can work. You will need to show a photo identification and social security card to complete these forms.

Everyone under 18 will need to have a work permit before the first game, so begin now because this is a multi-step process:

  1. Pick up an application from your school's office.
  2. Complete and sign your portion.
  3. Bring it to the church office so that we may complete our portion. (Note that the church office is not the same as the Rincon Valley Christian School office. The church office is next to the auditorium.)
  4. You return the completed application (with your parent's signature) to your school.
  5. Your school office gives you the actual work permit.
  6. You turn in the work permit to the church office allowing us to hire you for refereeing.

If you have any questions about the employment forms or work permit, phone the Santa Rosa Bible Church office (538-2385) on a weekday between 9:00 and 4:30, and ask for bookkeeping.

Once the season begins, pay checks are mailed on the 25th of the month for games worked on the 1st through the 15th, and they are mailed on the 10th of the month for games worked the 16th through the end of the previous month.
