League Rules - During Play

Time Outs: Each team is allowed two 1-minute time outs per half. Unused time outs do not accumulate (carry over). In 8-10 year old games the coach is not restricted to the bench area during the time out.

Bonus Shots: Bonus shots for fouls are shot only in the last two minutes of each half and during overtimes.

Stalling: No stalling of the game is permitted. The ball must pass the mid-court line before 10 seconds expire. Any attempt to simply run seconds off the clock will be a technical foul.

Press Rule: Full court press is permitted in the 11-12 and 13-14 leagues providing the pressing team is not ahead by 10 or more points.

Pressing in the 8-10 year old divisions is restricted. The defense must keep all but 2 players within the 3-point arc. The remaining 2 players may press full-court unless their team is ahead by 6 points or more, and then they are limited to half-court. (The "pressing" two players must be identified by the coach to the officials, the other team, and the opposing coach before the beginning of each quarter. The identified players may be changed only due to a player substitution.)

Exceptions: If a team rebounds the ball and immediately starts to fast break down the court, the defensive team is permitted to play defense (press) on the fast break. If a defensive team rebounds the ball and holds the ball for a few seconds without advancing (allowing the opposing team to clear down court), the pressing restrictions listed above apply. This is administered at the judgment of the officials.

Coaching Box: Per NFHS rules, only the head coach (or acting head coach if the head coach is absent) may stand and coach the team during play. Assistant coaches must remain seated with the players. In accordance with the spirit of this rule, assistant coaches are not allowed to coach the players during play even when seated. An assistant coach may not be designated as the head coach when the head coach is present. (Exception: A few teams are coached by an older youth under the supervision of an adult. While we may indicate the adult as officially the head coach for insurance purposes, the youth is considered the head coach for the purposes of this rule.)

Per NFHS rules, following a technical foul to the acting head coach, either direct or indirect, all coaching box privileges are forfeited. (That is, after a technical foul that includes the coach any coaching during play is prohibited.)
